Positive: The hotel is family owned, take a chance to speak to them, they are really interesting people. Everyone we encountered with spoke perfect English. We got a transfer from and to the train station organized but a hotel owner. It was probably a wise thing to do because the hotel is in the very heart of the ancient city with lots of narrow and pedestrian-only streets, so it could be tricky to get there without exactly knowing how to get there. The room is a great combination of modern facilities with a real Chinese flair, we really liked the vibe. The breakfast can be organized (not included in room price), they have some variety of western breakfast options. Although probably Chinese option could also be organized because we've seen Chinese tourists taking Chinese breakfast, but not sure about that.The breakfast is a-la carte (no buffet).

Positive: Lovely place to stay in Pingyao would recommend. It’s in a great location near the Main Street the staff are so friendly and helpful. We took up the offer of a lift to and from the hotel well worth it and very reasonable. Beautiful courtyard and traditional style.

Negative: The wooden cabinets on the shower were not a good idea and the wood was starting to rot.

Summary: Great place to stay at a fantastic price!

Positive: This is an awesome place to fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the ancient city of Pingyao! The location is very convenient. Inside the old town, but you can walk from the North gate in 10 minutes or less. That being said, the hotel staff really does speak English, which will make things much easier during your stay. For example, this hotel was very helpful in organizing one-day-trips out of the town, it took literally 5 minutes to coordinate with the hostess the route and start time we needed. We had a spacious room on the second floor with three beds. I think it is quieter than the first floor rooms. There are a lot of guests and visitors, there is still someone running around in the courtyards on the first floor in the evenings, but our upstairs hallway was very quiet. The room has slippers, kettle and cups, drinking water, which is replenished every day, shower gel and shampoo. The bed linen and towels are clean, the room is cleaned every day. There were no questions about water supply and sewerage, everything works normally. There is also a good number of European-style electrical outlets. WiFi was very good as well. The hotel serves a very varied breakfast. There is a Chinese-style breakfast in buffet form. For guests unaccustomed to such dishes, there is an additional menu with an excellent choice. (Actually, this is why the hotel does not include breakfast in the room rate in advance. You can choose different options at different prices.) You will also be served tea and coffee in the format we are used to at breakfast. Very comfortable. There are probably a lot of pictures here already, but I'll give in to temptation and attach a couple of my own. There is also a “Switzerland-breakfast" on my picture. Heartfelt thanks and best wishes from us to the owners family of the hotel!

Negative: Traditional Chinese beds are pretty hard for us. One of us even had to move to another bed after the first night, where the mattress was thicker and softer. We apologize! 😅

Positive: They didn’t give orange juice when I asked, breakfast too expensive. Didn’t refill coffee.

Negative: Pingyao was too touristy with too many junky shops. Could have seen everything in a day, no need to overnite.
